PIES Bulletin January 2024

Life remains challenging as inflation and unemployment rise, leading to a significant increase in the number of vulnerable children who rely on our Centre’s services.

As the new school year begins, we are thrilled to share that we have provided essential school uniforms, shoes, and bags for all our pre-school children who are now stepping into primary school. This milestone is a testament to our collective effort in ensuring every child gets a fair start.

The holiday season brought joy to our Centres with festive Christmas parties, where each child received a small gift. These moments of happiness are precious and remind us of the importance of our work.

Over the past year, our focus has been on ensuring that both the children and their guardians have enough food and access to care when needed. The Salvation Army has been instrumental in offering medical support and connecting with guardians who are struggling to provide for the children they care for.

In our journey toward sustainability, we have made significant strides. Our sewing group is now producing school uniforms for multiple schools and has secured a contract with a local hotel to supply bed linen. At our Malagwane Centre, the beekeeping project continues to grow with 12 hives in operation, and we are eager to expand further. The gardening project now supplies food for both Centres, with surplus produce being sold locally. Every sale helps support our Centres’ ongoing operations.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our donors, especially CMAD and Rotary, whose support makes our work possible. Together, we are changing lives and building a brighter future for these children.
